Environmental goals

We believe in a way of doing things that takes care of the environment, the communities and the surroundings where we are present.

Environmental goals and commitments

We promote a Sustainability Plan aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, which guides how we care the environment and how we carry out our operations in the territory.

This plan brings together initiatives that translate our commitment into concrete actions within the environment we share and next to the communities of the territory.

Decreased brine extraction

Our Sustainability Policy drives us to constantly take on new challenges and commitments, in line with the aspirations of the artists of the territory, our clients, collaborators and all those who are part of our environment.

During the operation in the Atacama Salt Flat, we have achieved reduce brine extraction by 32% between 2020 and December 2024.

We continue to move forward to achieve a 50% reduction by 2028without affecting our production.

Reduction of continental water

We are committed to reduce inland water consumption in all our operations up to the point of 120l / s in the Atacama Salt Flat, which represents a decrease in 50% to 2030. In addition, we seek completely eliminate water extraction from continental sources enjoyed between 2031 and 2060.

Today we are already making progress:

We operate with a maximum of 120 l / s, despite having authorization to extract up to 240 l / s.

We have reduced by a 8% well water extraction since 2020.

Recover 8 l / s through wastewater treatment.

At the Carmen Lithium Chemical Plant, we use water from third parties, mainly from treatment plants and desalination plants.

Through the Solutions Recovery Plant (PRS), in 2024 we recovered 33 l / s, equivalent to 47 % of water inflow.

In 2024, we extracted 107 l / s, an 7% less that in 2023 and a 11% below of the authorized flow rate.

None of our operations involve water discharge.

Carbon neutral

Today we are one of the lithium producers with the lowest carbon footprint globally.

This progress is aligned with science-based goals to limit global warming to 1,5 ° CIn 2024, our short-term emissions reduction targets were validated by the initiative Science-based targets (SBTi), including an absolute reduction of 46,2 % in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and a reduction in intensity of 55 % in Scope 3 to the year 2031, based on 2021.

We measure our monthly Emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) under the standard GHG-ProtocolThese results are verified by independent third parties and reported annually to Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Our lithium is also part of the solution: it contributes directly to the global energy transition, promoting the electromobility and storage of renewable energy.

Creation of shared value

We promote safe and inclusive working conditions, and we contribute to the development of local economies together with the communities in the territory.

We work to ensure that our presence generates real value, not only in our operations, but also in the environment we share.

Furthermore, we strengthen the monitoring systems of nearby ecosystemsThis allows us to respond more promptly. Among our advances, the following stands out: waste reduction generated both in our operations and together with suppliers, collaborators and offices in Chile and around the world.

High standard in reportability

En Novandino Litio We are working towards being recognized as a company by 2030 linked to green industries globally

To move forward on this path, we have strengthened our commitment to sustainability through various actions. These include:

The publication of our Sustainability Policy, the implementation of a online environmental monitoring system in the Atacama Salt Flat, our adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and participation in international initiatives such as the United Nations Global Compact and Global Battery Alliance.

Our Annual Sustainability Report It is produced under high standards. ESGIt is audited by independent experts and aligns with the methodology of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). In this context, we were included in the indices DJSI Chile y DJSI MILA Pacific Alliance, following an independent evaluation.

In addition, we initiated a diagnostic process in CDP, an international organization that promotes transparency in the environmental impact of companies, in areas such as emissions, water and biodiversity.
