Water resources

We are moving towards a more transparent water management system that is in balance with the Atacama Salt Flat.

We manage water responsibly

Taking care of water is also part of how we do things. We work in a responsible water management, focused on reduce inland water consumption and move towards more sustainable operations in the Atacama Salt Flat.

This commitment is part of our Sustainability Planwhich guides our actions with clear goals aligned with global standards. Furthermore, we have a public system of Environmental Monitoringwhich allows us to do Daily monitoring of brine and water usageensuring transparent, traceable and verifiable management of our resources.

Our way of taking care of water

Managing water responsibly is not just a goal, it's a way of operating. That's why we promote concrete actions that allow us to use the resource more efficiently, reduce our impact, and move forward with transparency.

Internal recirculation:

We reuse treated water within our processes. In 2023 alone, we recovered more than 1.110.319 m³, reducing the need for new extractions.

Transparent water balance:

We have a monitoring system with over 225 control points. This information is publicly available on our website. Environmental MonitoringBecause we believe in management that can be seen and verified.

Advances in the responsible use of water

Our commitment to water translates into concrete goals and measurable results. This is how we are moving towards increasingly responsible operations in the Atacama Salt Flat:

Brine reduction:

Between 2020 and 2024 we managed to reduce by 32% brine extraction. Our challenge is to achieve a total reduction of 50% by 2028, maintaining our production capacity.

Reduced use of continental water:

Today we operate with only 107 L / s, far below the 240 L / s authorized. Our goal is to reduce this consumption to 120 L / s by 2030 and move towards the total elimination of inland freshwater use between 2031 y 2060.

Our water footprint supports our commitment

We assess our water footprint using international standards, through an external analysis based on the regulations. ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 and in the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)The results confirm that our operations in the Atacama Salt Flat present a blue water footprint significantly low compared to other industries.

This is largely explained, because of how we produceWe use Energy coming mostly from renewable sources (more than 95,8%) to concentrate the brine, along with management focused on reduce the use of continental water and optimize each process.
