SQM and Uber offer discounts on rides based on air quality
- The initiative “SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL” seeks to be a contribution on days with critical environmental episodes in the Metropolitan Region, offering limited discounts of up to 50% for booking trips in the platform's electric vehicle category.
- To access these benefits, those who wish to obtain the discounts must enter www.viajessostenibles.cl, where a special code will be available - between 10% and up to 50% off - depending on the air quality of the day reported by the Ministry of the Environment.
An alliance that promotes sustainable mobility
In this context, improving air quality indices by promoting electric car travel in the Metropolitan Region is part of what the "Sustainable Travel" initiative by SQM Litio and Uber seeks.
As part of this partnership, Uber app users will be offered discount codes for Uber Green rides, which are exclusively electric vehicles. Those wishing to take advantage of this offer can do so starting Monday, July 22, by visiting www.viajessostenibles.cl.
Receive a discount based on the air quality in your area
On the website you can find a unique code according to the level of pollution reported by the Ministry of the Environment*:
- Good: 10% discount.
- Regular: 20% off.
- Alert: 30% off.
- Pre-emergency: 40% discount.
- Emergency: 50% discount.
*Limited discounts with a maximum between $1.000 and up to $5.000 pesos on the trip rate. Valid in the communes where the Uber Green service operates: Las Condes, Vitacura, Providencia, Ñuñoa, Santiago Centro, Lo Barnechea and La Reina.
In this regard, Valentín Barrera, Deputy Manager of Sustainability at SQM Lithium, emphasized: “Throughout these 25 years of lithium production, we have learned that the key is to adapt to change through innovation, technology, and a firm commitment to environmental and social sustainability. Our collaboration with Uber reflects this approach; we haven't settled for simply investing in an industry essential for decarbonizing the planet, but have decided to go further.”
SQM and Uber promote zero-emission travel
For his part, Federico Prada, general manager of Uber Chile, adds that “the future of mobility is everyone’s responsibility. We are convinced that advancing concrete actions together with other private sector actors, such as SQM Lithium, will allow us to make a real contribution to the path towards more sustainable cities. We are working with our partners to reach more areas of Santiago and other cities with our zero-emission travel option . ”
Therefore, the alliance between SQM Lithium and Uber seeks to reduce CO2 emissions by promoting sustainable travel in electric vehicles within the platform through the Uber Green option, which has been available since last year in seven districts of Santiago. Furthermore, the aim is to continue raising awareness of the real environmental impact of building and promoting sustainable mobility in the country.

Promotion valid for trips requested through the Uber app between July 22, 2024 and August 22, 2024. Promotion applicable only on Uber Green trips in the coverage areas where said product is available. Maximum discount of $2000, $4000, $6000, $8000 or $10000, depending on the discount percentage, on the fare applied per trip. Every 24 hours 1 discount exchange can be made. Not combinable with other promotions. This discount is personal and non-transferable. Promotion valid only on trips in personal profile. The maximum number of codes to redeem is 1.000 codes per day or while supplies last and subject to the availability of Uber Green vehicles. Uber reserves the right to modify the terms and conditions.
