Toconao Family Bullfight

Participants run the Family Race in Toconao, 2.400 meters above sea level.

A high-altitude sporting experience

The Toconao Family Run is a renowned sporting event held on one of Chile's highest-altitude running courses. Taken in the town of Toconao, in the San Pedro de Atacama commune, this activity aims to promote healthy living, encourage sports, and create opportunities for local communities to connect.

The race takes place at 2.400 meters above sea level, in a unique natural environment marked by the landscape of the Atacama Salt Flat and temperatures that usually hover around 30°C. These conditions make the race a special challenge for those who participate, attracting runners and families every year who join both the recreational and competitive circuits.

Traditionally, the activity includes routes of 2 and 6 kilometers, with the start and finish line in the Plaza de Toconao, allowing the participation of people of different ages and athletic levels.

The initiative was born thanks to the efforts of local workers and the Runners Salar de Atacama team, who promoted the project through the SQM Sports Grant Fund. Over the years, the race has become a sporting and community event that strengthens participation, local tourism, and active living in the region.
